1. Graphics
Graphics can grab the attention of any reader if they're used in the right way. Based on your intended message of the banner, a graphic should accompany what is being conveyed. If you're celebrating a birthday party you may want to use an image of a cake or balloon, or if you're celebrating the birth of a baby, a stroller or teddy bear may be acceptable. Selecting the right graphic is critical and should not be the primary element over the message.

2. Font Styles
Fonts play a critical role in the message you're trying to portray. There are two types of fonts: serif and sans serif. When creating a hanging banner, it's important to leave an area of white space around the design to help the viewer remain focused on the message. White space should not always be considered "blank", it can be an important design element that enhances balance and can help create a classic or rich appearance.
